I've often thought it would be easier to sit at a desk and write, but another, book on weight loss.

It would most likely make money and I wouldn't have to exert myself on the dance floor. Of course the end result would be, me needing my own book to lose all the weight I gained from doing nothing!

Sad but true, there is NO "Get Fit Quick"  solution. In fact, most of the weight lose programs that involve taking some kind of PILLS could very well be dangerous!

Dancing makes no claims of being used as a "Weight Loss Program!" However, it would make perfect sense if you exert yourself on a dance floor in a structured program you ARE going to gain some results. Just the fact that you are moving and usually for from 45 minutes to an hour  a couple of times a week is going to have healthy results whether you want them or not!

Personally, I'm not fond of the idea of promoting dancing for anything more than JUST HAVING FUN! But, I have seen the results, first hand, and have to recognize that health and well being can be and is a reality through dancing!

  Feel good, look good!

There is no MAGIC CURE for getting healthy and maintaining an active life style. It takes a bit of work. But who feels like going to a gym before work to get all sweaty or after work when you would just like to fall on the sofa and watch the "Box?"

And, sure as shootin' there is an ad for the latest "Get Fit Program!"

If I have to do . . .

THREE MORE . . .

TWO MORE . . .

ONE MORE TIME . . .

I'm going to explode!

Now, personally I have nothing against exercise programs. Let's face it, they are good for you. But, they're not for ME!

  • I have tried working out with weights. At the end of a few weeks all I did was HURT!

  • Cuz I got a little mid drift poundage I thought setups would work that off. I was wrong and gave up!

  • I tried jogging. Second day it rained and that was that!

  • Bicycle riding would be great but I live where there are a lot of hills and going down means I have to go back up. Oh well, don't own a bike anyway.

  • Aerobics was just a major mistake because ego made me try to keep up with the instructor!

Sound familiar?

"I could have danced all night and still have begged for more," so sayith the song from My Fair Lady. (1956)

Why would dancing cause such exuberance or was it the exuberance that caused the dancing.

We seldom correlate dancing to exercise because it doesn't look like exercise or feel like exercise or does it take place in a facility that promotes exercise.

When we think of dancing we picture people at a nightclub, party, wedding, anniversary, birthday or some alike celebration.

However, dancing is one of the best exercises one can do and here are some reasons:

  • gets you moving in a organized manner.

  • maintains a steady rhythm.

  • has no abrupt motion so is easy on the body.

  • increased heart rate.

  • strengthens lung capacity.

Let's take a look at some of the benefits of DANCING.

You are up and moving around. Simply put, PARTICAPACTION states that we should walk or jog or move in general. So, good for us, WE'RE MOVING!

It's good for your lungs.

You and your partner embrace in a dance hold called the FRAME.

The arms are up and out to the sides of the body. Shoulders are relaxed down and held slightly back while the abdomen is held in maintaining some muscle tone in the stomach area.

The position expands the chest capacity allowing more room for the lungs and increasing air intake.

Dancing increases the HEART rate!  Yes, it might just be because couples appear more sensual but the truth is with the increase in oxygen taken into the lungs from proper FRAME the heart is able to work more efficiently effecting everything throughout the body.

More blood flow to:

  • the muscles helping to increase strength.

  • the skin improving complexion and skin tone.

  • to the brain for vital thought functions.

Back Trouble!

There is absolutely NO proof that Dancing has any effect what so ever on an affliction such as Osteoporosis, however, it stands to reason if your spine is never kept in an upright hold that eventually it is going be impossible to correct any damage.

We SIT  at a desk, in the car and at the dinner table. We slouch on the sofa in front of the TV. We basically NEVER attend to the most important bone structure in our body.

So, how does dancing help?

Long time but not severe damage to the spine can be corrected through the dance training. Dancing teaches you to hold your back directly over your hips. Not stiffly but in an erect position. Posture correction will take time as it has taken time to deform the spine so don't expect results overnight.

The discipline of dancing, if applied, reminds us of what to do to make body form adjustments.

We may NOT achieve perfect results but they will be a great deal better than the present condition.

The reality? IT'S UP TO YOU!

Relaxation!

Are you crazy? I'm out here trying to remember what to do with my feet, concentrating on that thing called FRAME, staying in time with the music, doing the patterns without messing them up as well as lead or follow a partner and you WANT ME TO RELAX?

Oh, come to think of it, I have forgotten all about the stress at work, the commute and the world in general.

Gee, maybe this stuff really works!

You bet it does!

Those stupid, “Lose weight with this 1 weird old trick!”

How many people each year, especially around and just after New Years, fall for one of those weight loss overnight gimmicks? It must be million because they all seem to make Millions!

Is this what it promised?

Is this what you feel like now?
